What is this?

The rail-mounted container gantry crane is a large crane that runs on ground rails and is specifically designed for container yard handling operations. Through the lifting and moving of a container-specific spreader, combined with crane traveling along rails, it achieves stacking, loading/unloading, and handling of 20-foot, 40-foot, and 45-foot containers. If you are managing a railway container yard, a seaport terminal back-up yard, or a large inland depot, and need a container-specific crane with high stacking capacity, large working range, and strong reliability, this product is designed for you.

Why choose a rail-mounted container gantry crane over a rubber-tired container gantry crane?

Compared to rubber-tired container gantry cranes, the rail-mounted solution offers four core advantages:

First, stronger stacking capacity – the rail-mounted structure is more stable, with higher lifting height, capable of stacking 5 to 6 layers of containers, resulting in higher yard utilization.

Second, longer span – rail-mounted span can reach 30 meters to 50 meters, covering 6 to 10 rows of containers, with a single crane covering a larger area.

Third, lower operating cost – rail travel eliminates the need for tire replacement and fuel consumption, with electricity costs significantly lower than fuel costs.

Fourth, higher level of automation – rail-mounted cranes are easier to automate, and can achieve fully automatic operation when integrated with a yard management system.

Improve container yard operational efficiency and utilization with a more stable rail-mounted solution.

What can we do for you? We understand that every yard has different container volumes, different stacking heights, and different site conditions. Therefore, we offer flexible customization options: lifting capacity from 30 tons to 65 tons; span from 18 meters to 50 meters; stacking height options of 5 layers or 6 layers; lifting height customized according to stacking height; control options of cabin, remote radio, or fully automatic; power supply options of conductor bar or cable reel. Whether your yard is a railway terminal, a seaport back-up yard, or an inland depot, we can match the most suitable span and stacking capacity.

Unsure? Don't know?

Not sure whether a rail-mounted or rubber-tired solution is more suitable for your yard? Not sure what span and stacking height are needed to meet your capacity requirements? No problem. Just tell us: your yard area and layout, your design stacking height, your annual container throughput, and whether you have railway operation requirements. Our engineers will provide you with an accurate quote and CAD drawings within 24 hours. Click the button below or contact us via WhatsApp/email to get your customized solution.

💡 Tip: We offer free selection consulting. Even if you are unsure about specific parameters, feel free to describe your yard size and operational needs, and we will calculate for you.

APPLICATION SCENARIO

[1] Large Container Terminals – High‑density stacking and rapid retrieval for ship‑to‑yard operations.

[2] Intermodal Rail Yards – Loading/unloading containers between trains and trucks with wide span coverage.

[3] Inland Ports and Depots – Automated stacking zones requiring precise rail guidance.

[4] On‑Dock Rail Facilities – Direct transfer from shipside to railcars without truck intervention.

[5] Export/Import Storage Yards – High‑volume, continuous operation with minimal maintenance.

ADVANTAGES

[1] High Stacking Capacity – Up to 6 high, maximizing yard density.

[2] Fast and Precise – Rail guidance enables higher speeds and millimeter accuracy.

[3] Fully Electric – Low energy consumption and zero emissions.

[4] Low Maintenance – No tire wear; simpler drive and steering systems.

[5] Automation Ready – Easily integrated with terminal operating systems (TOS) for remote or driverless operation.
